Thanks to B&H Publishing and The A Group, we are giving away the updated and expanded edition of John Piper’s Brothers, We Are Not Professionals.
After reading the original edition of this book some years ago, I was encouraged and blessed by Piper’s wisdom and insights into being more than a teacher, Greek/Hebrew scholar, hospital visitor, or CEO. God’s call is much bigger: To rely on the Holy Spirit and follow Jesus to the ends of the earth. With six new chapters and expansion of others, this edition will surely bless a new generation of pastors (and even laymen!).

This looks good. Hope I get to receive this.
I read the original version several years ago. The update should be even better.
I would like to read this book! I hope I will one day because I agree with the sentence title. I do not know what Dr. Piper writes about in his book, but I do not think we are supposed to be professional; I mean that “professional” is usually contrasted by “personal,” and I believe Christians are called to be personal!
It seems like Jesus is frustrated with people who are professional when it comes to life. After all, life seems to be what Jesus wants people to be concerned with. He wants peeps to have life, and he wants them to live life correctly. What about ritual and religion for Jesus? It looks like these are important, and they are a part of life!
“Artificiality” is what a professional mentality promulgates. Jesus is concerned with “genuineness!”
I probably need to develop these ideas more, and I need to read John Piper’s book because he may develop the ideas I have suggested; he may throw a completely different spin on this ball!
Do I understand Jesus? Do I need to be more professional?
